Luella Boyd

Age 95, died peacefully at her home at Long Lake on Thursday, May 22, 2003.  She was born on July 19, 1907 in Ionia the daughter of Leonard and Agnes Schafer.  Luella graduated from St. Lawrence Hospital School of Nursing and was a dedicated Registered Nurse and Supervisor of Obstetrics at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing for 35 years.  She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne (Larry) Dillman of Dansville and Arlene (John) Tannheimer MD of Ionia; grandchildren, Tina Wheeler, Karen Penrose, Michael Marsh and Tim Marsh, Beth Gazella and Kim Gazella; six great grandchildren: five great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Virginia (Cecil) McKenna of Florida; 3 brothers, Dick (Trudy) Schafer of Ionia, Bob (Arline) Schafer of Ionia, and Pete (Mary) Schafer of Ionia.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Byron Boyd; sisters, Ruth Bauermeister, Catherine and her husband, James Poole, Mary and her husband, Claude Edwards.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia with Father Melvin Fox, Pastor, Officiating.  The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Cook Chapel, 220 Rich Street, Ionia Monday Evening from 7-9 p.m.  A rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m.  For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ss. Peter and Paul School Memorial Fund in memory of Luella Boyd.
