Marian Thelen

Westphalia Age 95, passed away on July 15, 2009. She was born on August 22, 1913 in Westphalia the daughter of William and Louise (Luttig) Smith. Mrs. Thelen was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westphalia and the Christian Mothers Society. On May 22, 1935 she married Leonard M. Thelen and together they shared 50 years of marriage until his death in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her son, Leon Thelen; an infant grandson; granddaughter, Renee; sisters Eleanor and Verena; brothers Aloysius, Isadore, Celestine and Paul. Surviving are her children William (Joan) Thelen of St. Johns, Robert (Mary Ellen) Thelen, Reynold (Ann) Thelen, Ervin (Mary Jane) Thelen and Gary (Linda) Thelen all of Westphalia, Marie (Leon) Armbrustmacher of St. Johns, Jeanette (Joe) Pung of Portland and Kathy (John) Eklund of Westphalia; 32 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; sisters Loretta Thelen, Leona Leik and Dorothy Lenneman; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Conlon at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel. The rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m., Thursday and 3 p.m., Friday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m., Friday. For those wishing memorial contributions may be made to Austin's House or the the Westphalia Fire Deptartment in memory of Mrs. Thelen.
