Marie Smith

Age 86, loving mother and grandmother passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2008. She was born on August 21, 1921 in Ionia County the daughter of Julius and Myrtle (Gillespie) Kirby. Mrs. Smith loved needle work, gardening and cooking, but most of all loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kathi Sheaffer; several brother and sisters. Surviving are her children, Patricia (Robert) Roe of Saranac, Ruth Ann (Max) Christensen of Grand Rapids, and Fredrick (Deborah) Sheaffer of Orleans; 3 step children, Shirley (Tom) Christiansen of Palo, Charles (Carol) Smith of Ionia, and Pam (Tony) Perrella of Las Vegas, Nevada; 22 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Ward of Grand Rapids; brother, Leonard Kirby of Florida; several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. David Bogda, Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich Street, Ionia with interment following at Palo Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Monday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation in memory of Mrs. Marie M. Smith.
