Marilyn S. Dewey DeWitt Marilyn Smith Dewey, formerly of Auburn Hills, Birmingham and Detroit passed away peacefully on Monday, May 22, 2017. She was 88. An outdoor Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 30, 11:30 a.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Born February 12, 1929 to Alice and Lester Smith of northwest Detroit, Marilyn enjoyed a wonderful childhood. She graduated from Redford High School in 1946, then attended the University of Michigan. In 1947, she married the love of her life, William R. (Bill) Dewey, also a Redford and University of Michigan graduate, as well as a World War II Air Force combat veteran. Marilyn and Bill’s sixty-year marriage was built on old-fashioned values combined with deep spirituality. She lived life as an example to her children of unselfishness, generosity and benevolence. Even at the end of her days, her goal was “to be a good person”. Incomparable in beauty and grace, Marilyn loved entertaining, loved her girlfriends, and loved music- especially Frank Sinatra! After her children graduated from high school, Marilyn’s thirty-four year career as a bookkeeper and business manager began. She also served for eighteen years as Secretary-Treasurer of the Kassel Mission Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, her siblings, and a great-grandson, and is survived by three children (Linda Alice Dewey, Dianne Evelyn (Fred) Nichols, William Lester (Carol) Dewey), five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
