Martha L. Oakes Portland, Michigan Age 85, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 9, 1928 in Portland, MI the daughter of Clarence and Rose (Wohlscheid) Barnes. Martha was active on the planning committee for the PHS Class of 1946, was a supporter and donor to the Gift of Life of Michigan, and she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and playing Scrabble. She lived in Sarasota, FL with her husband, enjoying nearly 26 years. Preceding her in death were her husband, Richard in 1999; son, Scott Oakes. Surviving are her children, Colleen (Dan) Kohn of Plum Branch, SC, Maureen (Dan) Reeder of Ionia, Steve (Esther) Oakes of New Jersey, and Stacy (Ed Brooks) Oakes of Toledo, OH; "special daughter", Sharon (Steve) Martin; grandchildren, Xander and Griffin Oakes, Rob (Jessica) Reeder, Kate (Eric) Einstein, M.D., and Aaron and Samantha Brooks. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland, with Rev. Larry King, Pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Portland, presiding. Interment will be in Portland Cemetery.
