Portland Age 79, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010. She was born on February 23, 1931 in Ionia the daughter of Claude and Jessie (Emelander) Thomas. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and being with her family. Martha married Glen Schwarz on March 12, 1949. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son-in-law, Dennis Rinks and several sisters and brothers. Surviving are her children, Sally Rinks, Peggy (Rick) Adams, Patty (Dan) Starkweather, and Mary (Fred) Scheurer; grandchildren, Myssi (Keith) Willitts, Chris (Doug) Yeakey, Jessie (Shawn) Akers, Jason (Donni) Smith, Shannon Adams, Daron (Bess) Starkweather, Erin (Jordan) Cortright, Josh (Kacey) Scheurer, Katelyn Scheurer, and Logan Scheurer; great grandchildren, Connor, Grace, Izabella, Hunter, Vada, Violet, Corey, Casey, Drew, and Rowan; siblings, Dick (Delores) Thomas, and Leo Thomas; brother-in-law, Burton Taylor and sister-in-law, Margaret Thomas. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland with Chaplin Ron Hutson presiding. Interment will follow at Balcom Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or McLaren Hospice.
