Mary Peake

Mary Caroline Peake Portland Age 87, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2007. She was born on June 25, 1920 in Lansing the daughter of August and Caroline (Weiland) Simon. Mary was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was very devoted to the rosary and loved being with family and friends many times making sure they were well taken care of. Mary enjoyed cooking, playing cards, gardening, and embroidery. She worked at Michigan National Bank in Lansing before her marriage to Wilbur H. Peake and also was a member of V.F.W. Post #4090 Ladies Auxiliary in Portland. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wilbur, daughter Cindy, grandson Justin Henry Leyrer, sisters Virginia Simon and Sr. Ann Rosaire Simon and a brother-in-law Lynn Peake. Surviving are daughters Julie (Douglas) West of Lansing and Betty (Michael) Leyrer of Portland; grandchildren Heather (Robert) Wiborn and Brandon Leyrer; brothers Arnold (Joan) Simon of Charlotte and Harold (Mary) Simon of Spokane, WA; sister-in-law, Margy (John) Moyer of Portland; brother-in-law, Forrest "Bud" (Eleanor) Peake of Portland; many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Larry King, presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Danby Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Monday and Tuesday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., Monday and 3 p.m., Tuesday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday. For those wishing memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Parish, Portland Foundation For Public Education or Visiting Nurse Service of Michigan Hospice in memory of Mrs. Peake.
