MARY SPITZLEY WESTPHALIA, MI Age 94, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012. She was born on March 20, 1918 in Dallas Township the daughter of John and Regina (Ott) Schmitt. Mrs. Spitzley was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. Mary was devoted to her faith, especially the rosary, as well as the Miraculous Medal. She married Leon H. Spitzley on February 17, 1941, and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1994. Also preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Louis, George, Julius, Martin, Fr. Albert, Herman, Isadore, and Tony Schmitt; son-in-law, Eugene Gross; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandson. Surviving are her sons, John, Marvin (Jeanette), Ron (Teresa), Fr. Denis of Concord, Delbert (Susan), Francis (Linda), Brother Bernie, SVD, of Jamaica, Mark (Sheryl), Michael, and Luke (Shelley) Spitzley; daughters, Mary Lee (Mark) Schafer, Dorothy (Leon) Pung, Germaine Gross, Stella (Vernon) Pung, and Rita (Mike) Owen; 42 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; sister, Clara Wirth; brother-in-law, Joseph M. Spitzley. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Rev. Denis R. Spitzley presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, and 3 and 8 p.m. Wednesday. Complete arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.
