Nellie Jean "Mickey" Phelps Portland, MI Formerly of Lansing and Six Lakes, MI Age 80, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to so many left this world on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 with her children by her side to be with her Lord and her husband Bill Phelps who passed away on May 21, 2006. Mickey was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1927 to Nellie and Thomas Williams. She is the last member of her family and the only one to make it to 80 years of age. She married Bill Phelps in 1950. Mickey retired from Banner Linen in Lansing, MI in 1986 when she and husband Bill moved to Six Lakes, MI enjoying retirement on Lake Montcalm until moving to Portland in 2002. She enjoyed going to local Senior Center to play euchre twice a week and loved the Detroit Tigers and banana splits. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church while living in Lansing and Entrican Bible Church while living in Six Lakes. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Phelps; parents Nellie Gilbert and Thomas Williams; siblings, Buddy Williams, Tommy Williams and Audrey Shippey; step-father, Tom Gilbert; sister-in-law, Edna Sue Phelps. She is survived by her children, Art (Jo) Phelps of Portland, Gary (Sue) Phelps of Mason, and Scott Phelps of Portland; grandchildren, Matt Phelps of Castaic, CA, Adam and Emma Phelps of Portland, BradLee and Michael Phelps of Mason, MI; brothers-in-law, Jack Shippey of Higgins Lake, Ted Phelps of Gleason TN, and Jack (Rubye) Phelps of Gleason, TN; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007 at the Immanuel Baptist Church, Lansing; with Pastor Royce Allen and brother Ray Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Okemos. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland; and at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gideon Bible Ministries in Mickey's Memory.
