Opal Leyrer Obituary

Age 88, loving mother and grandmother passed away on December 12, 2008. She was born on March 3, 1920 in Axem, North Carolina the daughter of John and Lettie (Evans) Bennett. She was a founding member of Hope Lutheran Church in Portland, retired from the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons, MI., and loved to garden. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband E.F. Jim Leyrer; 3 brothers, Ivan, Roddy, and Odell Bennett. Surviving are her children, John Leyrer of Portland and Roberta "Bobbie" (Larry) Fisher of Three Oaks, MI; grandchildren, James (Karen) Fisher of St. Joseph, MI and Dr. Melissa Fisher of St. Kits Island, West Indies; 2 great grandsons, Cody and Wyatt Fisher; 2 sisters, Rachel Penley and Lyla McCurdy; several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland with interment following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12 p.m. until service time.
