Phillip A. May Portland Age 52, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017. Phil was born on March 9, 1964 in Lansing the son of Leon and Jeri (Utterback) May. Phil was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a volunteer for the Faith Formation classes. He was an employee of the U.S. Postal service for 38 years, mostly as a rural carrier. Phil was a member of the Fourth Degree Fr. Godez Assembly of the Knights of Columbus serving as a Fourth Degree Marshall, he was the Past Grand Knight of the Portland Council #2168 and served as a District Deputy and Treasurer. He was involved with Big Brother/Big Sister program, the Portland youth baseball program, serving as a past president. Phil served on the Danby Township Board of Review and also enjoyed woodworking, making items such as toy trains, and furniture. He was preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Carol Schrauben and Dorothy May. Surviving are his loving wife of 14 years, Heidi; children, Erin, William, and Amanda; parents Leon and Jeri; siblings, Ron May, LeAnn (Dan) Main, Steven May, and Luke (Holly) May; father and mother in-law, Kendall and Barbara Sandborn; in-laws, Chris (Kaye) Sandborn, Denise (Mike) Ouendag, Joel (Robyn) Sandborn, and Scott Sandborn; brother-in-law, Dave Schrauben; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Larry King, presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Danby Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. followed by a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice Service.
