Raymond G. Chartrand Portland, Michigan Age 90, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015. He was born on April 12, 1924 in Clifford, MI the son of Archie and Anna (Olzeum) Chartrand. Mr. Chartrand was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Services, proudly serving during World War II from 1941-1945 in the Pacific Theater, and was a member of the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. He retired from General Tire in Ionia in 1986. He will be fondly remembered as the "card man" and an avid Detroit Lions, Tigers and Red Wings fan. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. During his retirement years, Raymond and Catherine enjoyed traveling to the south, especially the mountains. Preceding him in death were his wife of 64 years, Catherine; granddaughters, LeeAnn Platte and Lori Platte Newman; great granddaughter, Alyssa Cassel; great grandson, Ryker Larson; many brothers and sisters. Surviving are his children, Gary (Marlene) Chartrand, Sandy (Hilary) Platte, Tim (Karen Parker) Chartrand, Cathy (Dan) Shattuck, Becky (Nick) Henry, Mary (Dave) Dothsuk, Shelly Chartrand, Lisa (Terry) Morris, and Marty Chartrand; 20 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Bob) Eliser and Marge Smith; special friend, John West. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Larry King at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. A Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
