Raymond Schafer Obituary

Raymond F. Schafer Westphalia Age 86, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2007. He was born on March 16, 1921 in Fowler the son of Joseph and Mary (George) Schafer. Raymond was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia and the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Thaddeus # 2890 Council. He was a lifelong farmer and was a member of the South Fowler fast pitch softball team. Raymond is preceded in death by a son Gerald, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and 4 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Elizabeth, children Mary Ann (Roger) Dershem of St. Johns, Janet (Brent) Coffman of St. Johns, Rick (Patti) Schafer of Eagle, Bob (Doris) Schafer of Eagle, and Ron (Karen) Schafer of Westphalia, 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, brother Arthur (Mildred) Schafer, sister Erma Thelen, and sister-in-law Burlene Schafer. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Cecilio Reyna at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Westphalia Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosary will be prayed at 3:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday with a Scriptural Wake Service be prayed at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Catholic Relief Services or the Sparrow Hospice Services.
