Richard Arens

Grand Rapids Born July 2nd, 1948 in Westphalia, the son of Theodore and Hildegard Arens, passed away on Saturday, September 10th at age 63. He attended St. Mary's School, and graduated from Pewamo-Westphalia High School in 1966, and attended MSU. Enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War, he was also a member of the American Foreign Legion. He was a wonderful father, brother, and son, an avid runner, an entrepreneur, adventurer and pastry connoisseur. His passion for travel is only exceeded by his love for his family. Preceeded in death by his mother and father, brother Ronald, and nephew Kevin Lucas. Surviving are his children Kenyon (Danielle), and Jordan (Elaine); 5 grandchildren Alexander, Sienna, Daniella, Kaya, Nicolai; 4 brothers Alban (Eugenia), John, Ronald (Kay), and Bruce (Sharon) and 3 sisters Jane Lucas (Gary), Gladys Stauffer (Lee), and Diane George (Bruce). The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Conlon at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. on Monday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St. The Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy of Michigan (Nature.org) in memory of Richard.
