Age 66, died on March 2, 2007. He was born on March 7, 1940 in Portland the son of Julius and Julia (Feldpausch) Smith. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Portland and a member of the Knights of Columbus #2168 in Portland. Dick retired from Oldsmobile in Lansing. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Bill, and Leo Smith, sisters Viola Dutcher and Rita Scheurer, sister-in-laws Rosella Smith, and Evelyn Smith, brother-in-laws Richard Simon, Donald Dutcher and Robert Simon, niece Sharon Hengesbach and nephew Patrick Simon. Surviving are brothers George and Joe Smith of Portland, Charles Smith of Mulliken; sisters, Helen Simon of Pewamo, Ruthann (Alban) Hengesbach of Westphalia, Jean Van Ostran of Lansing, Rosemary Simon and Julie (Dan) Leonard of Portland; brother-in-law Ford Scheurer of Ionia; sister-in-laws Gail Smith from Grand Ledge, and Christine Smith from Westphalia; great aunt Esther Schrauben of Portland; many nieces and nephews and cousins. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland with Rev. Larry King presiding. Rite of Committal will follow in Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Monday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m., Monday and a Scriptural Wake Service at 8 p.m.. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Church Boiler Fund in memory of Richard C. Smith.
