Richard Zeigler Obituary

Age 84, passed away on Friday January 13, 2012. He was born on March 8, 1927 in Ionia, Michigan the son of Harold and Dorothy (Bohn) Zeigler. Mr. Zeigler married Lois Bakeman on March 26, 1947, and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2007. Richard was a United States Naval veteran, serving in World War II as a fireman in the engine room. He and his fire crew were the last off the ship PC 1147, fate unknown. He loved planting trees on his property, carefully plotting a forest of different species. Richard and his wife enjoyed traveling, doing so all around the world together, and he also enjoyed woodworking, board games and golf. Also preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Lloyd. Surviving are his children, James (Carol) Zeigler of Belding, Thomas Zeigler of Ionia, Steven (Sakorn) Zeigler of Melbourne, FL, and Kirk (Loretta) Zeigler of Palm Bay, FL; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich Street, Ionia, with Rev. Larry Brown, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Ionia presiding. Interment will take place at River Ridge Cemetery in Belding. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
