Ionia Age 62, passed away June 16, 2010. He was born on March 3, 1948 in Detroit the son of Elmer and Mary (Eckert) Boufford, Jr.. Robert enjoyed the Detroit area sports teams and the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was the past Grand Knight of the K of C Council #944 and was Past Faithful Navigator of the Edward Kelly Assembly 4th Degree in which he was active in various activites including marching in parades. He was a Sgt. at the Old Michigan Reformatrory in Ionia. Robert was the Past President of the Ionia Jaycees and the Michigan Senate. In 1989-90 received National Presidental Award from the State of Michigan Jaycees. Robert was Vice President for District 20 of the West Michigan Jaycees. Robert was member of the T.W.A., Ionia Moose Lodge and the Ionia Historical Society. He enjoyed history, being involved in the Gettysburg, Mt. Vernon and the Colonial Foundation. He received the keys to the City of Royal Oak which made him very proud. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Patricia; step-sons Eric (Heather) Johnson of Germany and Colin Marcus Johnson of San Francisco, CA; his dogs Kooter Cahalin and Libby Lady II Boufford; siblings Fr. Thomas Boufford of Ionia, Edward (Peggy) Boufford of Sparta, Joseph Boufford of Ypsilant, John (Cheryl) Boufford of Harrisville, Mary Gray of Quincy, Elizabeth (John) Pruitt of Grand Rapids, Joan (Dennis) Senchuck of Sault Ste Marie and Helen (Dorr) Bissell of Ionia; 2 nieces and 1 nephew; aunt, Grace Schlegelmann of Troy. Many cousins on Patricia's side of the family. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with his brother Rev. Thomas Boufford presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Sunday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. The rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m., Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, American Diabetes Association or to the charity of one's choice in memory of Robert.
