Robert Jones

Age 92, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather went to be with his Lord and his wife on May 18, 2009. He was born on January 10, 1917 in Hesperia, MI the son of Robert G. and Altha (Moon) Jones. Mr. Jones was a Veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army with Pacific Supply. He was an Elementary Teacher for Ionia Public Schools for many years teaching at Twin Rivers, Emerson, and Boyce Elementary Schools. He also received his Masters Degree from Central Michigan University and was a member and church treasurer of the Open Bible Church in Ionia. He was the President of the Senior Citizens and also volunteered for the Ionia County Commission on Aging for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred Sarah Kemp Jones; siblings, Elaine Webster and Gardner Jones. Surviving are his sons, Mitchel (Susan) Jones of Pinconning and James (Sharon) Jones of Ionia; 4 grandchildren, Tristan (Anu) Jones of Pennsylvania, Aaron (Katie) Jones of Illinois, Melissa Jones of Ionia, and Cassandra Jones of Ionia; 2 great grandchildren, Evelyn Rose, and Verna; siblings, Vernon (Elizabeth) Jones of Charlotte and Vivian (Don) Vlas of Hesperia; several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the First Assembly of God, 2973 E. Bluewater Hwy, Ionia with Pastor Mark Gerdes and Pastor Steve Yarrington officiating. Interment will follow at Balcom Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by the Portland VFW Post #4090. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich Street, Ionia from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 12 - 1 p.m. on Thursday at the church. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia County Commission on Aging in memory of Robert Edwin Jones. As we sat at his side during his last moments we reflected on what a knowledgeable and amazing man he was. We hope to carry the level of integrity he did in all of his 92 years.
