Rose Marie Cotter Pewamo, Michigan Age 83, Rose Marie passed away on March 20, 2014, at home. She was born December 19, 1930, in Carson City, Michigan to Nicholas and Helen Grace (née Handlon). As a teenager, she volunteered as a hospital candy striper, soda jerk, ticket taker at the movie theater, and church organist at St. Mary's Parish. She was valedictorian of her Carson City St. Mary's high school. Rose Marie married John Cotter on June 23, 1951. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was active in the Altar Society and other parish activities. She attended Aquinas College and received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Central Michigan University. She taught in Pewamo-Westphalia's school system from 1958 until her retirement in 1988. She loved playing golf, tennis, bowling, gardening, baking cinnamon rolls and cookies, quilting, and many types of card games, which she played with friends from many nearby communities. She enjoyed being with family at various Michigan lakes. She also enjoyed her trips to Ireland, Las Vegas, Reno, the Bahamas, her cruise to Central America, and visiting friends across the country. She loved watching her grandchildren in school activities and in sports; she was regularly in an audience, poolside, court side, or in some set of bleachers. She was preceded in death by John, her husband of 49 years, her parents, her brother, Andy Grace, sister-in-law, Ann Grace, her sister, Mary Ellen Reeder, her brothers-in-law, James Cotter and William Stonebrook. She is survived by her children, Gail (James Downs) Cotter, Mike (Sandra) Cotter, Jack (Patricia) Cotter, and Jane (Daniel) Pung, and grandchildren Erin (Victor) Cabral, Matt (Rachael) Downs, Maria Cotter, Tom Cotter, Grant Cotter, Padraic Cotter, Nick Pung, Andy Pung, and Peri Pung, great grandchild, Zachary Cabral, her sister, Marguerite Stonebrook and sister in law, Mary Cotter and numerous nieces and nephews. In the years since John passed away, she has been attended to by many generous and giving friends which allowed her to remain in her own home. She was, and her children continue to be, incredibly thankful. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Charlon Mason, Pastor, at 11:00, Monday, March 24, 2014, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pewamo, Michigan with Rite of Committal following at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pewamo. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday, and a Scriptural Wake Service held at 8 p.m. Sunday. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.
