Ruby Sutton

Age 80, went to be with her Lord, Monday, October 3, 2005 at Lansing Ingham Regional Medical Center following heart bypass surgery. Ruby was born on October 12, 1924 in Sumner, MI the daughter of John Leslie and Hazel E. (Wing) Johnson, then residents of Elm Hall. She graduated from Alma High School in 1944 and attended C.M.U.. Ruby married Don Sutton in June of 1947. She taught elementary school for many years throughout Michigan, including Vanderbilt, Lyons, Portland, Charlotte and Bellevue, before retiring in the late 1970's. Ruby was an avid reader and letter writer, and she enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, James Leroy Johnson; grandson, David Charles Sutton. Surviving are her husband, Donald Sutton of Portland, MI; daughters, Patty (Dave) Snyder of Charlotte, MI and Janet (Wendell) Holt of Elwell, MI; sons, Charles (Patricia) Sutton of Charlotte, MI and Mike (Cheryl) Sutton of Ninilchik, AK; sisters, Thelma Smith, Genevieve (Eldon) Frisch, Mary (Clayton) Sanders and Joyce (Donald) Hindenlang; brothers, William (Jackie) Johnson, Keith (Shirley) Johnson, Richard (Julie) Johnson, Theodore Johnson, Phillip (Lilly) Johnson and John (Kandy) Johnson; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. The Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Portland. The family received friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, and from 11-1 p.m. Friday at the church. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Youth Haven Ranch, or to Family Life Radio, in memory of Mrs. Ruby Ellen Sutton.
