Sarah Graham Obituary

Sarah Henrietta Graham passed away May 23, 2010 at Midland King's Daughters Home in Midland, Michigan where she had been a resident since 2005. Henrietta was born March 7, 1914 in Dallas Township, Clinton County, MI and was the daughter of Arthur F. and L. Pearl Stow. She moved to Ionia, MI in 1923 with her mother and stepfather and graduated from Ionia High School in 1931. She took a clerical position at the Ionia State Hospital and fell in love with another employee, Earl G. Graham. Earl and Henrietta were married January 13, 1934 and lived in a residence building on the hospital site for 6 years. They purchased a cottage on Long Lake for their weekend escapes. In 1940 they purchased their home on Morse St. where she maintained her residence until 2003. With the birth of their only child, Gary, in 1943, she temporarily left the workforce; returning 5 years later. She worked at a variety of clerical positions in Ionia, ultimately retiring from the office staff of Ionia High School in 1970. Wanting to remain active, she volunteered at the Ionia County Commission on Aging until about age 86. She was a devoted member of the First Christian Church of Ionia. She and Earl enjoyed travel and actually drove to Mexico City, Mexico in the mid-fifties. Upon Earl's retirement they purchased a VW bus with all the fixings and continued the adventures. Winters were spent in Florida and Texas. Surviving her are her son Gary Graham (Carolyn) of Midland MI; two granddaughters: Cynthia Foura (Jeff) of Midland and Angela Malinowski (Dan) of Belle Meade, NJ; and five great grandchildren: Brennan, Nathan, & Carissa Foura and Kristina & Tyler Malinowski. Preceding her in death were her husband of 52 years, Earl G. Graham; two brothers Claude V. Stowe and Dewey R. Stow; two stepbrothers: Richard and Ralph Vance and stepsister Mildred (Vance) Fox. Final arrangements are being handled by Schrauben Lehman Funeral Home in Ionia with immediate cremation per her instructions with interment at the Balcolm Cemetery, Ionia. There will be a private memorial service at a date to be determined. For memorials please consider the First Christian Church 130 East Washington St Ionia, MI 48846 or your favorite charity.
