Age 95, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012. She was born on May 25, 1916 in Pewamo, MI the daughter of Anthony and Anna (Klein) Miller. Mrs. Kowatch was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society, and was very devoted to church. Sarah loved mending clothes and canning. Her favorite season was spring, she enjoyed seeing the first robin of the season. She married her husband, Leo Kowatch, on March 27, 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1998. Also preceding her in death were her son, Mark; granddaughter, Michelle Kowatch; siblings, Reynold Miller, Florence Koenigsknecht, Laura Koenigsknecht, and Leonard Miller. Surviving are her children, Marie (Dennis) Arens, Helen (Joseph) Nurenberg, John (Mary Lee) Kowatch, Virginia (Larry) Smith, Philip (Laurie) Kowatch, Luke (Sandy) Kowatch, Germaine Kowatch, and Kathleen (Don) English; 34 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Rita Miller and Lucille Kowatch. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, with the Rev. Charlon O. Mason presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Pewamo. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, and 3 p.m. Wednesday, and a Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
