Thomas Cook

Thomas Otto Cook Portland, Michigan Age 89, was reunited on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2015, with the love of his life Marie after almost 27 years apart. He was born on September 3, 1925 in Pewamo, MI the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Wohlsheid) Cook. Mr. Cook was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, a member of the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090, as well as a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #2168. Tom worked for Portland Public Schools in maintenance, retiring after 33 years of service. He was a hard worker, even driving school buses and managing apartments to help put his 6 daughters through St. Patrick Catholic School. Tom loved camping, fishing, hunting and playing cards. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Marie; and 6 siblings. Surviving are his 6 daughters, Nancy (John) Costello, Barbara (Rick) Davison, Donna Cook, Diane (Tom) Hoban, Denise (Pete) Weeks, and Sharon Cook; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; “special daughter”, Laura (Doug) Willemin. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Larry King at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2015 at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090, in memory of Thomas. On line condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
