She had two marriages, one to Charles C. Roberson of Missouri, and also to Phillip E. Bresnahan of Battle Creek, Michigan who preceeds her in death. She lived in Nowata, Oklahoma, Battle Creek, Portland, Sebewa, and Lyons, Michigan. In Battle Creek she had worked at Gambi's Restaurant as a carhop. She also worked at the Portland Pizza House of Portland where she learned to throw pizzas, and at the Scale House Restaurant of Ionia, where she worked as a prep cook and retired from. She and her husband Phillip worked hard to start the Father Daughter Date Night of Portland. She was an active member of the Portland Rodeo and worked hard to help make the rodeo what it is today, and assisted with the Ionia County Ribbon Riders 4H Club. She attended regularly and faithfully at the Portland United Methodist Church. Velma will be especially remembered by her children for the guidance that she gave, and the morals that she bestowed on them. She loved to do crafts and was willing to help anyone that needed direction. She even taught the inexperienced to cook in order to help keep happiness within their household.
