Virginia Ingram Obituary

Virginia was born on Dec. 13, 1919 in Clare, MI, the daughter of Earl and Myrtle Owens. She passed on Nov. 26, 2011 at the age of 91. Preceding her in death were her husband of 73 years, William; her brother Robert Owens; and granddaughter Lori Feaser. Surviving are her children Marilyn (John) Disch, Rose Mary (Joe) Ludwig and William "Woody" (Liz) Ingram Jr.; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; sisters Maxine Garchow, Joyce Ann Bennett, Phyllis (Dave) Ferguson, brother and sister-in-law Keith and Bonnie Ingram, many nephews, nieces and friends. Virginia married William O. Ingram on March 27, 1937 in Detroit. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend who lived by the Golden Rule. "Ginny" was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star # 258 during which time she held a variety of offices. Virginia enjoyed helping her friends at the Portland Methodist Church in many programs including the St. Stephens Society and hosted many church family picnics and Ladies Circle outings at her home. She helped prepare and serve the Kiwanis Tuesday luncheons for many years. Hobbies included camping, bowling, playing cards, dancing and socializing in general. Accomplishments included she and Bill attending the National Democratic Convention as delegates in Atlantic City in 1948, earning her high school diploma from Portland High School at the age of 52 and writing a short story about riding on a school bus driven by her daughter Marilyn in a caravan to deliver buses to Alaska that was published in two local newspapers in 1990. Virginia held a variety of secretarial positions. She worked at UAW Local # 602, Electrolux, Allis Chalmers and the City of Portland. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland, with Rev. Keith Treman presiding. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday. A Service by the Order of Eastern Star #258 will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
