Wayne Hyland

Age 84, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2005. He was born on January 3, 1921 in Dewitt, MI the son of Ward and Tillie (Nelson) Hyland. Mr. Hyland was a Veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp. and retired from General Motors as an electrician after 30 years of service. Wayne was one of the first in Portland to service and fix televisions and radios. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, James, Vivian “Bud”, and Charles “Buster”; 2 sisters, Esther and Pauline. Surviving are his wife of 62 years Dolores; 3 daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Herp of Wellington, Florida, Marie Hyland-Willis of Lansing, and Vicki (Robert) Weller of Portland; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. Marilyn V. Danielson, Pastor at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the First Congregational Church of Portland. Interment will follow at Balcom Cemetery in Ionia, MI with military honors provided by the Portland VFW Post #4090. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Portland in memory of Mr. Wayne N. Hyland.
