Obituary
Age 81, passed away at his home Thursday, February 13, 2003. He was born September 23, 1921 in Pewamo, MI the son of Emmett and LaVancha Townsend. Mr. Townsend was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army as a sharpshooter. He was a lifetime member of the Sheridan V.F.W. Post # 5065, the Flat River Antique Auto Club, and was a member of the Ionia County Sheriff's Posse from 1957 to 1985. Mr. Townsend loved life and he loved his horses. He also had a special love for his dog, Fancy Pants. Weston married Caroline Geister in Gatesville, Texas on August 10, 1978, and she survives him. Also surviving are daughters, Linda (Steve) Foote of Greenville and Phyllis (Marvin) Wiles of Carson City; step sons, James Gale of Belding and Gregory (Debbie) Gale of Orleans; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Harry Townsend of Gaylord; sister, Mary Esham of Ionia. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Iva Noble and Rachel Jerosimich, and brother, Albert Townsend. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 17, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia, with Rev. Rob Atkinson, Associate Pastor of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Interment will be held in Lyons Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
