Wilma Schafer

Wilma D. Schafer Westphalia, Michigan Age 84, died on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Sparrow Hospital as a result of complications from hip surgery. She was born on September 14, 1928 in Clinton County, Michigan the daughter of Aloysius and Elizabeth (Fandel) Droste. Wilma was a lifelong resident of Westphalia, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and the Christian Mothers' Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Georgiana and Charles Clark; brother, Tom Droste; brothers-in-law, Jim Pung and Paul Henning. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, John Schafer of Westphalia; children, Cris of Lansing, and Jack (Liza) of Glastonbury, CT; 2 step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Ramsey and Tory Carbone; 3 step-great grandchildren, Madyson, Isabella, and Ava; 2 sisters, Alice (Sam) Donahue, and Pat Pung; 1 brother, Richard (Bernadette) Droste; 4 sisters-in-law, Janet Droste, Ruth Henning, Joanne Schafer, and Donna (Jim) Heibeck; many nieces and nephews. Wilma enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, her many card clubs, watching sports on TV, and frequenting casinos. Her zest for life, ability to make everyone feel comfortable and special, and her sense of humor will be greatly missed. She will be in our hearts forever. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with the Rev. James Conlon presiding. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. A Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. on Monday. Rite of Committal will take place at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.
