Alvin "Al" Rush Obituary

Alvin L. Rush, age 79 of Stanton, passed away from complications of Parkinson’s disease on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Metron of Greenville. Al was born at home and raised on his family’s farm where he learned and developed his strong work ethic. As a high school senior, Al took a job at Gibson’s Refrigerator. In 1967 Al started Rush’s Forest Products which he owned and operated for nearly 50 years. During that same time, Al also owned and operated A&E Sawmill. Al held memberships in Montcalm County Farm Bureau, Michigan Association of Timbermen, Heritage Village and the Entrican Arbor of Gleaner Life Insurance Society. He served on the Douglass Township Planning Commission, Montcalm County Farm Bureau Board, the Forestry Advisory Committee for the State of Michigan and the Michigan Association of Timbermen Board. Al was just honored by the Timbermen Association to receive their annual Friend of Timbermen award. Al was fiercely proud of sawing and providing lumber for the Rush Dairy on the Heritage Village campus where he reconstructed, as much as possible, the pasteurization equipment used by the Rush family to process and bottle milk. Al’s family would like to extend a big thank you to the staff of Metron and Hospice of Michigan for the wonderful and loving care they provided. Al is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret; daughters, Bonnie Bristol (Mike Amelia) of Stanton; Tina Hendrickson of Lake Odessa; sons, Kevin (Sandy) Rush of Stanton; Kyle Rush (Jeffery Jones) of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Jimmy Bristol; Sarah Hendrickson; Marie Hendrickson; Jenn; Brad and Brian; great grandchildren, Jimmy; Jake; Lennon; brother, Richard (Cathy) Rush of Greenville; sister, Joanne Peeples of Sheridan; many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as his lifelong friends, Bob Sly and Denny Olson. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Marcella (Zavadil) Rush; sister, Doris Humphrey and brother, Leslie Rush. Visitation for Al is being held on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 4 to 7 PM at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Stanton (225 W. Cedar Street). Funeral services for Al will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 beginning at 11 AM with Pastor Mark Edwards officiating. For those wishing to make a memorial donation in Al’s memory the family suggests you direct them to either Heritage Village or the Michigan Association of Timbermen Jess Birtcher Scholarship. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
