Obituary for Marianna Kay Siblani

Marianna Kay Siblani, of Warren, MI, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in her home after a long and unyielding battle against breast cancer.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, November 1,1948 to Willard and Leota Kendall, Kay was a thoughtful and passionate woman, with brilliant red hair and an unforgettable smile, who contributed to her family, friends and life's work in ways that only she could.

Professionally, she was a nurse and a journalist. She cared for people with every thought in her head and gave voice to those who are sometimes missed in our mainstream culture. Personally, she was a friend and an advocate. She was always there for others, and never questioned putting herself second. She stood tall when she stepped in to help and made calls for action.

Kay, along with Osama Siblani, co-founded the Arab American News, an independent metro Detroit newspaper, which recently celebrated its 28th anniversary. Her dedication greatly contributed to its success.

She was strong of mind and spirit, and shared her strength. She will remain an inspiration to those who knew her and her work.

Kay is survived by her loving mother, Leota, her daughter, Michelle, granddaughters, Brittany, Jackie and Alexandria, her grandnephew whom she was guardian of, Mikey, brothers, Kenny (Connie), Keith, and sister, Kathy (Garrett), and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Kay was predeceased by her father, Willard.

Visitations will be held on Saturday, January 5th, 2013, 2:00 pm - 8:00pm, and Sunday, January 6th, 2013, 1:00pm-8:00pm at Verheyden Funeral Home in Warren, MI. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7th, 2013 at 10:00 am, also at Verheyden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AstraZeneca Hope Lodge of the ACS, 110 W. Laurel Ave., Cheltenham, PA 19012.
