Gerald Dwayne Wik was born on January 2, 1931 in Montevideo, MN to Jasper and Betty (Berg) Wik. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Watson, MN. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1948. After high school he served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War where he earned the Korean Service Medal. After proudly serving his country, he attended South Dakota College for two years. He married Barbara Van Heuveln on February 2, 1957 in Montevideo, MN. He worked for 35 years in highway design for the Minnesota Department of Transportation in St. Paul, MN from which he retired in 1991. Married for 62 years, he raised his family with his wife, Barbara, in Coon Rapids, MN. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, Daniel Wik and his wife Shari of Ham Lake, MN; two daughters: Debra Curtis of Wyoming, MN and Beth Wik and her husband Robert Watson of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren: Christina Orde and her husband Ty, Michelle Mosbek, Chelsey, Shawn, and Jared Wik, and Katherine Watson; six great grandchildren: Molly Hickerson, Jaden and Emmett Mosbek, and Addison, Maddison, and Nova Orde; brother, Raymond Wik and his wife Marilyn of Aberdeen, SD; two sisters: Margaret Krause and her husband Russell of Rock Hill, SC and Wendy Opsahl and her husband Jerry of Aberdeen, SD; and a number of family and life long friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Gunder and Sadie Wik; parents Jasper and Betty Wik; step-mother, Cora (Emery) Wik; and brother, Roger Wik of Watson, MN; son-in-law, Robert Potteiger; and a number of family and life long friends. Gerald Wik died at the age of 88 on Thursday, June 20, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was a much loved family man. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran who was devoted to his family and friends. He is known by all as a loving, kind, and gentle soul. We will love you forever. There will be a celebration of life on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church (20 Northdale Blvd. Coon Rapids, MN 55448) at 11:00 AM. Future inurnment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
