On Thursday, March 21, 2019, James (Jim) McGuire, loving husband, and father of four children passed away at age 83.

Jim grew up in Minneapolis and lived in the city all of his life. On June 18, 1960, he married Kathleen (Kay) McCarthy. Together, they raised four children (three sons and one daughter). He adored his grandchildren and cherished his relationships with them. Jim also enjoyed the company of their dog, Riley.

Jim received his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Minnesota and spent the majority of his professional career in finance at Valspar Paint. He had an appreciation for nature and enjoyed gardening. He loved to spend time at the family cabin in Winona County, and often spoke of memories from his annual family trips to Lutsen and several journeys to the Boundary Waters with his sons and grandsons. Jim’s tenacity and ability to build and engineer plans came in handy on many of those trips. His family will remember him for his infectious laugh, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Thomas, and his mother, Marie. He is survived by his wife Kay, his four children, Patrick, Michael, John (Heidi) and Amy, his brother Tom, and his four grandsons Joseph, Alex, James, and Leo. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, March 29, 2019, 11 a.m. at The Church of the Annunciation 509 West 54th Street. Visitation 1 hour prior to Mass at Church only.
