Jan Pryor Barber

Jan Pryor Barber, 75, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at her home in Bruce. Born October 24, 1944, in Slate Springs, she was the daughter of the late Lon Pryor and the late Oma Moore Pryor. She was a 1962 graduate of Calhoun City High School where she was voted most beautiful and Homecoming Queen. She went on to further her career at MSCW with a BS in education and taught at Fairview and Caledonia Elementary for many years. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Bruce. Jan loved utilizing her talent in oil painting and creating many beautiful paintings. She was very musically inclined and had a passion for singing. She also enjoyed growing roses and writing for the Calhoun County Journal. Jan was very caring and thoughtful person and, she was very passionate about helping and caring for others. Those who knew Jan will remember her for her caring heart and sweet nature. She loved her family, and absolutely adored her grandchildren. A beautiful soul that will never be forgotten, her memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family. A graveside service will be held Friday, September 18, 2020, at 1:00pm at Bethany Cemetery in Slate Springs, MS. Bro. Robert Earl Alexander will be officiating with interment to follow at Bethany Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ray Howle, Sonny Pryor, Chad Boulware, Eddie Helms, and Tony Hardin. She leaves behind her daughter, Jeannie Dowdle Howle and husband Ray of Columbus, MS; sister, Mary June House of West Memphis, AR; two grandchildren, Chelsea Boulware and husband Chad and Shelby Dowdle both of Columbus, MS; three great grandchildren, Owen Boulware, Brock Boulware, and Rider Dowdle; and a host of nieces and nephews In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palmer House of Children. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Lonny Pryor. Expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at pryorfuneralhome.com.
