Mary Frances “Lett” Knight Mayfield, 83, of Washington D.C., passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. She was born on August 13, 1933, to the late Roscoe and Ruth Knight in Hattiesburg, MS. She was the seventh of eleven children and attended Hattiesburg Public Schools. Mary Frances is preceded in death by her siblings, James Knight, Roscoe C. Knight, Jr., Geraldine Blake, Ruth Ann Potier, John L. Knight, Harold L. Knight and Elizabeth Knight; and her daughter-in-law Ruby Knight. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-nine years, John Mayfield of Washington, D.C.; a son Robert L. Knight of Atlantic City, NJ; three daughters, Stephanie Hoze (Milan) of Hattiesburg, MS, Gwendolyn Simmons (James) of Fayetteville, GA and Ivan Mayfield of Bowie, MD; two granddaughters, Kami Shepphard (Ashanta), Kasia Craft (Adrian); three grandsons, James Simmons, Cody Simmons and Jacob Knight (Alyssa); along with a great-grandson and twin great-granddaughters. She is also survived by one sister Doris Bowen of Hattiesburg, MS; two brothers, Willie G. Knight of Colorado Springs, CO and Billy E. Knight, Sr. of Moss Point, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation is Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Forrest Funeral Home Chapel 12 noon-2 pm with the service to follow at 2 pm. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery.
