Edwin Moffatt

Edwin L. Moffatt, age 83, and a resident of Carriere, MS died September 13, 2011 at Highland Community Hospital. Mr. Moffatt was born December 2, 1927 in Clifton, Texas and had been a resident of Carriere for the past six years. He graduated from Clifton High School and the University of Houston. He was a member of the Carriere United Methodist Church. He served in the Military at the end of WWII and was a veteran of the Korean War with the 24th Division and was discharged as a 1st Lt. He retired from Conoco after 30 years of service. He worked as an Engineering Draftsman, Test Engineer, Production Foreman, Gas Plant Foreman, Drilling Foreman, Gas Plant Superintendent and Production Superintendent at several locations in the U.S. He also worked with CER Geonuclear (Conoco Employee) on the Atomic Energy Commission’s Plowshare Program as CER’s Field Program Manager. After the years with CER, he returned full time to Conoco and his last work location with the then Conoco’s New Orleans Division. He retired as a Production Superintendent of Offshore Operations. After retiring to Pearlington he served on the West Hancock Fire Protection District in the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary/Treasurer. He also served on the Belle Isle Property Owners Association in the positions of President, Vice President and Secretary/ Treasurer. He and his wife were victims of Hurricane Katrina while living in Pearlington and eventually moved to Carriere, MS. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Roy and Daisy Hanna Moffatt; his brothers William J. Moffatt and Aubrey Hanna and two half brothers C.M & J.D. Moffatt. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patsy Prose Moffatt of Picayune, MS; daughter June Moffatt Oase and her husband Michael Oase of Houma, LA; one brother R.L. “Pat” Moffatt of Saginaw, Texas; a niece, Barbara Joy Hanna of Des Moines, Iowa and several other nieces and nephews through the Moffatt and Prose families. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at Memorial Gardens Mausoleum on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Jim Biendenharn of First United Methodist Church officiating.
