H. Earl Blackshear Obituary

H. Earl Blackshear, Jr. went to be with the Lord on October 5, 2015 at the age of 89. He was born on February 9, 1926 in Freeport, Texas. He was a resident of Port Sulphur, LA for 70 years. Hurricane Katrina consumed his home in 2005 and he relocated to Carriere, MS for 3 years and then to Picayune, MS the last 7 years.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Merle Blackshear (his twin) and Albert Blackshear, his twin sisters, Edith Buras and Ethel Pousson, and his parents, Harvey Earl Blackshear, Sr. and Katie Peikert Blackshear.

Earl is survived by his nieces and nephews – Glenda Wheeler (Daniel), Judith Baird (Doug), Timothy Blackshear (Lisa), Jerry Blackshear, Hazel Baker (David),Bobby Bond (Judy), James Bond, Vera Bond, Betty Lough (Jim), Rose Marie Repczynski (Ray), Albert Roy Buras, Joseph Buras, Janice Lawtum (Robert) and his sister-in-law, Thurza Blackshear. He was also survived by his great nephews Jarrod Wheeler, Cooper Baird and Clay Baker and his great nieces Afton Baird, Brooke Blackshear, Brianna Blackshear, Penny Burnette, Connie Beard, and Katie Young. Also left to cherish his memories are many other great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

Earl worked for Freeport Sulphur Company for 33 years and then worked for 5 years for Plaquemines Parish Sherriff’s Office. He was a lifetime member of Port Sulphur Baptist Church and was a member of West Union Baptist Church. Earl served his country as a member of the U. S. Navy during WWII and was a member of V. F. W. Post 6402. During his entire life, Earl loved to hunt, fish, garden and read and watch Westerns.

The family would like to express their many thanks to the caring employees of the Pontchartrain Health Care Centre.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at West Union Baptist Church in Carriere, MS from 10:00 to 11:00 with services beginning at 11:00 on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Interment will follow services at West Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Picayune Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
