Imogene Spiers

Imogene “Jean” Lydia Smith Spiers, age 83, of Picayune passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Highland Community Hospital. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Picayune Funeral Home followed by Funeral Services at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. James Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery. Jean was a life time resident of Pearl River County and a Baptist. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked many years at several care-giving facilities in Mississippi and South Louisiana, including Picayune Convalescent Home. Before that she taught school at the former McNeill School System and was a homemaker. She loved to read, write, eat, and travel, as well as play piano, sing and dance. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and loved family gatherings. She is survived by three sons, Kent (Cindy) Spiers of McNeill, Lance (Paula) Spiers of Picayune and David Spiers of Bay St. Louis; two daughters, Rebecca (Robert L.) Spiers Jones of Brandon and Suzanne (Don) Wicks of Picayune; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, E. Dewey Smith, Sr. and Meddie M. Smith; her husband Robert S. Spiers, Jr.; one brother E. Dewey Smith, Jr.; two sisters Jenny Rutledge and Mary Wilmot; one grandson Adam Spiers.
