James H. Gilchrist

James Harold Gilchrist, age 89, was sent home on May 25, 2017. James was born on September 18, 1927 in Plaquemine, Louisiana. He was a resident of St. Bernard Parish for over 50 years, and he resided in Picayune, Mississippi for the last 12 years.<br><br>James was a U.S. Army Veteran, and served in Guam during World War II. He retired from American Standard at the age of 59. He enjoyed his retirement years at home gardening, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching sports, and was an avid New Orleans Saints fan.<br><br>James is survived by five of his children, Hilda Bailey, Peggy Roux (Ned), Perry Gilchrist, Shelia LeBlanc (Harold) and Lisa Gilchrist; four grandchildren, Wallace Bailey, Raymond Kaufmann, Jr., Rachel Barbin, and Perry Gilchrist, Jr.; six great grandchildren, Dalton Bailey, Davin Bailey, Erica Bailey, Alexis Bailey, Amelie Kaufmann, and Carson Kaufmann; four siblings, William Gilchrist, Theresa Salvato, Ronald Gilchrist and Lee Gilchrist; and several nieces and nephews.<br><br>James was preceded in death by his father, Louis J. Gilchrist; mother, Winnie L. Gilchrist; loving wife, Theresa M. Gilchrist; daughter, Winnie M. Gilchrist; grandson, Eddie Ray Bailey; siblings, Rita G. Coupel, Joseph L. Gilchrist, Norman Gilchrist, Lloyd Gilchrist, Elmo Gilchrist, Yvonne Wells and Brenda Gautreaux.<br><br>Visitation will be held at Picayune Funeral Home, 815 South Haugh Avenue, Picayune, Mississippi on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Picayune Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Picayune, Mississippi under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home.<br>
