Robert M. Rench Obituary

Robert M. Rench, 74, of Poplarville, MS, formerly of Greenville, Illinois, passed away of heart failure at 7:16 p.m. January 25, 2012.

Bob, fondly known as “Yank” and “Gator Bob” was born on May 18, 1937, in Vandalia, Illinois, to Darrell and Lucy (Ray) Rench. He married Doris Zimmerman on July 2, 1955. They had three children, Bobbie (Joe) Reck, Tammy Rench and Tony Rench; Five Grandchildren and Ten Great-Grandchildren. He and Doris later divorced.

Bob was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 520 for many years and loved to operate the high-risk cranes. He worked on pipelines and interstates across the country. He was an inventor, a demolition expert and owned a variety of businesses. He could build just about anything from nothing. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, taxidermy, boating and horse trading. He loved the people and the swamps of the Gulf Coast region and felt fortunate to spend his retirement years here. He always had a flare for telling stories and was really good at making people laugh. His children liken him to a real life example of “True Grit” and are thankful that he passed that trait on to them. He was loved by many and tales of his escapades will live on.

A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Poplarville VFW at 5:00 p.m.
