Thomas James Stewart

Tom “Tommy” Stewart passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 in Hattiesburg. He was born June 11, 1947 to Robert (“Bob”) and Arlene Stewart. <br><br>As a boy, Tom enjoyed Dixie League baseball and, as a father, enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball teams. Tom was an avid golfer who won the Millbrook club championship in 1969. As a vocational rehabilitation counselor, Tom spent many years helping people return to work after disabling injuries and illnesses.<br><br>Tom was blessed with friends and families who loved his sense of humor, his love of a good story, and his authentic approach to every situation. Tom was always able to remember what it’s like to be a kid, and knew how to talk to his granddaughters in a way that made them feel respected and loved. He valued the friendships he developed from his early childhood on and counted on those friends for a lifetime of good times. <br>Tom is survived by his wife, Dona Sue; daughters, Jenny (Ben) Register, Kristen, Kimberly (Scott) Stephens; granddaughters, Lauren, Haven and Audrey Register and Reese Stephens who will miss him immensely; sisters, Katherine “Katy”, Dorothy “Dotty” and Harriet “Tudi” Stewart, along with their husbands Ed Heaton, Robert Buhl and Rick Felsing. <br><br>Visitation will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Roseland Park Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Bro. Anders Lee and Bro. Lavelle Lee officiating. Burial will be at New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home.<br><br>
