Bettye Ann Smartt Hawkins

Mrs. Bettye Ann Smartt Hawkins, of Senatobia, MS, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto in Southaven, MS. Mrs. Hawkins was born on February 10, 1940 in Yazoo City, MS to The Late Josie Mae Milner and Zernie Jack Roberts. She served as a Registered Nurse for 20 years before her retirement. Mrs. Hawkins loved traditional country music, gardening, canning and cooking. She loved her family dearly and they were always her top priority. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her daughter, Jody Jarjoura (Peter) of Austin, TX; two sons, Wayne Griffin (Lisa) of Hernando, MS and Clay Griffin (Tanya) of Southaven, MS; two sisters, Josephine Harris and Jenell Cooper, both of Yazoo City, MS; two brothers, Robbie Roberts of Yazoo City, MS and Donald Roberts of Highland Park, TX; eight grandchildren, Zachary, Lydia, Marlena, Seth, Shelton, Grant, Austin and Chase; and one great-grandchild, Avery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Hawkins; her son, David Griffin; her grandson, Jordan; and her parents. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 2pm in the Senatobia Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Saturday from 1pm until service time at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center in Memphis, TN. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home - Senatobia Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
