Frances Smith

Frances Marcella Smith of Cuba, Missouri was born September 23, 1915 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Francis and Cecelia (Nee: Gallagher) Kelly and the angels came and took her home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 98 years. Marcella was united in marriage to John W. Smith on February 16, 1938 and to this union five children were born; Nancy, Stephen, Linda, Larry and Madeleine. Marcella spent her life taking care of her home and her family. She was a devout Catholic, member of Holy Cross Catholic Church of Cuba for forty years and a member of the Altar Society. Marcella would kneel to pray every night beside her bed. She never said a bad word about anyone and she believed in always helping others. Marcella was the social light of the family, if there was a party going on she was the first to be ready to go and the last to leave. Marcella enjoyed reading, quilting, being outdoors and playing scrabble. She would often sit outside on the porch swing so she could get fresh air and sunshine. Marcella decorated her coffee, treasured her trips to the ocean, the beach and shoe shopping. She was very energetic and always kept busy. What she loved the most was spending time with her family and friends. Marcella was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend to everyone she ever met. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Marcella is preceded in death by parents Francis and Cecelia Kelly, husband John W. Smith, two sisters Helen Bokermann and Jane Brooks, one son-in-law Joe Sanborn and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving children Nancy Sanborn of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Stephen and wife Linda Smith of Cottleville, Missouri, Linda and husband Bill Striler of Kirkwood, Missouri, Larry and wife Cathy Smith of Byrnes Mill, Missouri and Madeleine and husband Roger Killeen of Cuba, twelve grandchildren Mark and wife Marti Sanborn, Stephen and wife Tracey Sanborn, Tracey and husband Eric Scholer, Kelly and husband James Chapman, Lizabeth "Betsy" and husband Colin Summers, Jeff and wife Rebecca Smith, Adam Smith, Scott and wife Melissa Smith, Jennifer Harris, Katie Killeen, Laura Holland and Jordan and husband Jonathan Cason, twenty seven great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 5:00 till 8:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington, Cuba, Missouri. Celebration of Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church of Cuba, 415 W School Street. Interment and prayers will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Marcella's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Marcella’s family.
