Marridee Fern Davis June 17, 1944 – September 9, 2020 Marridee Fern (Garrett) Davis, age 76 of La Plata, Missouri passed away Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri. She was born at home in rural Memphis, Missouri, on June 17, 1944 to Charley Elson and Jaunita Fern (Long) Garrett. She was a graduate of Gorin High School in Gorin, Missouri, in the class of 1962. On June 30, 1962 in Schuyler County she was united in marriage to Marvel (Lavon) McNary and to this union two children were born; Michael Lee and Teresa Lynn. On September 4, 1985 she married Sammie Davis. Marridee is survived by her children, son Michael Lee McNary and daughter, Teresa Lynn Barnes, and her husband Richard, all of La Plata MO; a very special granddaughter Lexi Brianna Barnes, also of La Plata; One brother, Raymond Garrett and his wife , Pixie of Orion, IL, two sisters Arleta Miller of Lancaster, MO, and Marilyn Wilson and her husband, Robert of Springfield, MO; a brother-in-law, Glen Clark of Kirksville, MO; and sister-in-law, Denise (Garrett) Wheeler of Memphis, MO; a special gift sister Dorothy Wilson of Springfield, MO; two gift boys she raised, Donald and Bobby Derickson and their families; several nieces, nephews, other family and many good friends. Marridee is preceded in death by her husband in 2015; her parents; one sister, Sharon Clark; and four brothers, Charles Jr, Gary Dean, Clifford Wayne, and Terry Leon Garrett. Marridee came to know and accept Jesus at a young age. At her passing, she was a member of the La Plata Christian Church. Marridee had an amazing bond with her mother. She was the oldest girl in her family so caring, nurturing, and taking care of everyone else came second nature to her. She was a wonderful and loving mother, a good mother-in-law, and occasionally too indulgent “Grams.” She had many kids that called her Mom, Aunt, and Grandma and she loved them all. She and Sam loved over 125 foster children in their home. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved to work, dance, and listen to her gospel music. She loved to tell a good story, sometimes the 10th retelling was miles away from the first version, but her stories never got old. She never knew a stranger and always gave to anyone in need, even if she did not have much to give, she gave it anyway. She loved her lord and life itself. Visitation will be Sunday, September 13, 2020 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the La Plata Christian Church. Funeral Services will follow with Pastor Scott McNay officiating. Burial services will be in Parkview Memorial Gardens in Kirksville. Family suggests memorial established in her name to the La Plata Volunteer Fire Dept or the La Plata Christian Church.
