Wayne Edwin Matheney, 75 of LaPlata, Missouri passed away Monday July 1, 2019 at the LaPlata Nursing Home. He was born August 19,1943 in Kirksville Missouri the son of Johnson Thomas and Esther (Wood) Matheney Wayne is preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Sherry Pauline Matheney. He is survived by his children, Carri Mae Matheney of Virden Illinois and her fiancé Rich Scales, Jay Kelsey of Kirksville, Missouri, Jim and wife Melani Kelsey of Kirksville, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Cameron, Laney, Brittany, Breann, Cohen, Bryce, Ashton, Allie, and Auburey; and seven great grandchildren Eli, Charlie, Syler, Knox, Stockton, Dax, and Channing. Wayne loved mowing lawns weather it be his or others, woodworking and building bird houses for his friends and neighbors. He enjoyed golf, spoonbill fishing and motorcycles. Wayne was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the El Kadir Shrine Club. He especially enjoyed driving the Shriners mini car in local parades and providing golf balls for our local youth golfers. Wayne spent several years in the construction business prior to working as a maintenance supervisor for the Kirksville Regional Center Department of Mental Health where he retired after 20 plus years.
