Wesley Howard Bland

Wesley (Wes) Howard Bland, 85, Trenton, MO passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton, of Covid-19. Wes was born January 12, 1935 in Kansas City, MO. At age 12, the family moved to the Hickory, MO area where he attended Gee School. At age 17, he enlisted into the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Wes was stationed at Eielson AFB and was a participant of “Operation Snowshoe”. He completed his service and was discharged in 1955 as a Staff Sergeant. Wes married his life long partner, Nancy K. Jones, January 18, 1955. They moved to the Kansas City, MO area where he worked at the GM plant for two years, and also took the Civil Service Exam. He became a truck driver for Camel 66 Express and Churchill Truck Lines, moving back to the Trenton, MO area in 1965. Wes was then called by the Postal Service where he carried mail for 27 years out of Laredo, Chillicothe and Trenton before retiring in 1992. Wes then went back to trucking, finally retiring for good at age 75. Wes was a member of Shelburne Baptist Church, and an avid supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. He enjoyed traveling to bluegrass festivals and a six week camping trip to Alaska to visit his former military base, plus south Texas and Virginia Beach. He was a proud member of the Democratic Party and a strong Union member. Wes was preceded in death by his parents, William Harold Bland Sr. and Gladys (Bader); brother and sister-in-law, William (Bill) H. Bland Jr. and Evelyn (Whitmer); infant and toddler sisters, Ruth and Evelyn; and brother-in-law, Buford Veach. Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Jones) Bland of the home. Children, Kathryn Apple (Charles); and Timothy; granddaughters, Journey, Whitney and Courtney; great grandsons, Nicholas, Alex, Kai and Eisley; sister Carolyn Veach; and extended family. The families wishes were for Cremation H20 a service provided by A Simplified Funeral Solution in Green Castle, MO.
