Ingrid Robins

Ingrid Gisela Heideck Robins passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. A reception will follow the services at the Ararat Shrine Temple, 5100 Ararat Dr, Kansas City, MO 64129. She was predeceased in death by her son, Ronnie Rebman, her mother, Ima Jenz, her grandmother, and her Aunt Gretel. Ingrid was born on March 20, 1935 in the town of Moabit in Berlin to Irna Elizabeth Jenz and Dadinon Heideck. Her mother was 20 years old and her father was 29 years old when Ingrid was born. Irna and Dadinon divorced when Ingrid was only five years of age. After the divorce Ingrid and her mother lived with her grandmother in a small apartment in East Berlin. As a young child Ingrid and her family encountered many scary situations trying to stay alive and escape the Nazi soldiers. Ingrid and her mother relied on her Grandma’s feisty spirit, courage and ingenuity to keep them safe and provide food for the family. Ingrid loved and credits her grandmother with teaching her to cook, clean and sew. When Ingrid turned 15 years old it was time for her to choose a career. Ingrid’s mother wanted Ingrid to become a Milner (hat maker) but Ingrid had dreams of becoming an actress or a makeup artist. Ingrid and her mom finally settled on hair stylist. Ingrid began working with other hair stylists in an intern program which lasted for five years. Upon completion, Ingrid obtained a job on the US Army base as a hair stylist. It was then that she met her first husband and father of her child, Dean Rebman. The two married and Ingrid left Germany for the US at age 25. Ingrid’s only child, Ronnie Rebman, was born on July 1, 1960 at the Army hospital. The family then moved to Mountain Grove, Missouri. Shortly after moving to Missouri the couple was transferred to Texas where they lived in Army housing. Ingrid learned English by watching TV. She was able to pass the Hair Stylist test so she could practice her trade. The couple moved often and Ingrid continued her career in California, Louisiana, New Jersey, Colorado and Missouri. Ingrid and Dean divorced and Ronnie and Ingrid moved to Springfield Missouri. Ingrid made friends easily. She met the love of her life on a blind date on New Years Eve in 1973. Doug Robins and Ingrid married on August 18, 1974 in Independence, MO. The couple moved to Colorado when Doug was asked to be the District Manager for International Trucks. While in Colorado, Ronnie was diagnosed with bone cancer and lost his life at age 16. Shortly after Ronnie’s passing Doug was asked to accept a position as the Regional Manager in Kansas City, MO. Doug accepted the position and the couple moved to Independence, MO. In 1990 Doug and his two partners purchased a dealership, and formed KCR International Trucks. Ingrid and Doug enjoyed many years as Shiner’s participating in the Motorcycle Motor Corp attending conventions and competing in many states. Ingrid was a member of the O.E.S. in Kansas City. The couple loved to dance and have fun. They served as hosts for the annual Motor Corp Christmas Party. They were season ticket owners and fans of the Kansas City Chief’s for over 34 years. They were masters at tailgating. They enjoyed wintering at their home in Bonita Springs, Florida. While in Florida they made many friends. The couple loved the beach and Ingrid enjoyed shelling along the Gulf shore. Ingrid shared her love for her friends by sending cards and giving gifts. Her thoughtfulness was genuine and endeared her to many. Ingrid was beautiful inside and out. Ingrid will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Doug Robins, goddaughter and family, nieces and many friends.
