Norman Ott

Norman Dale Ott, 78, of Grain Valley, MO, died at his home on January 9, 2017. Norman was born on January 26, 1938, in Gridley, KS to Aaron R. “Dutch” and Emma L. Kraft Ott. He graduated from Gridley High School in 1956 and attended Kansas State University. On April 1, 1960, he married Shirley Bell in Kansas City, MO. Norman was then drafted into the United States Army and served 4 years. Norman had worked for the Leeds GM Plant for 32 years, before his retirement in 1989. He was the Financial Secretary for several terms for the U.A.W. Local #93, as well as a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. Norman enjoyed boating, skiing, and spending time with his grandkids on the lake. He never met a stranger and will be missed by so many that loved him. Norman was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; two daughters, Rhonda (Michael) Enss of Oak Grove, MO and Kala (Randy) Puckett of Grain Valley, MO; a son, Michael Ott of Oak Grove, MO; his sisters, Doris (Gary) Christy of Emporia, KS and Linda (Harold “Andy”) Andrews of Independence, MO; 4 granddaughters, 7 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Full military honors will be held for Norman on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation to follow until 3:00 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. A graveside memorial service in the Gridley Apostolic Cemetery, Gridley, KS will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to the Village Hospice House, 1001 NW Chipman Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO 64081.
