William Tinney

William D. “Bill” Tinney, age 87, of Carl Jct., Mo., went home to the Lord on Monday March 5, 2012, at Freeman East Hospital, following an illness. Bill was born on July 2, 1924 in Columbus, Ks., the son of the late William H. and Ruth (Cooley) Tinney. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of WWII. While in the Navy he served in the South Pacific Theater as a demolition explosive technician. He was united in marriage on June 7, 1952 to Crissie “Dee” Tinney. Together they made their home in Joplin raising their four children. He worked as a Chemical Engineer for Eagle Picher, retiring in 1995. He was a past member of the Elks Club. He spent many years coaching Little League Baseball, and many basketball and football teams. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and watching football and Nascar. He is survived by his wife of fifty--nine years, Dee Tinney, Carl Jct., Mo.; two sons, Skip Tinney and wife Connie, Nixa, Mo., and Rusty Tinney and wife Sandy, Joplin; two daughters, Debra Dunham and husband Steve, Carl Jct., Mo., and Stana Walker, Carl Jct., Mo.; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Merl Tinney and Carl Tinney. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel with a visitation immediately following services. Pastor Mike Ingle will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Tyson Willoughby, Taylor Willoughby, Stephen Dunham, Andrew Tinney, Joshua Walker, and Keegan Tinney. Internment of Ashes will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the Missouri National Guard Military Honors Team. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
