Bernard E. Drummond, 79, of Kansas City, MO passed away April 23, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House. The rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm Sunday, April 28th at Christ the King Church, 8510 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO followed by visitation until 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Monday at the church. Interment with military honors will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Christ the King Food Pantry or Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.
Bernie was born June 19, 1933 to Bernard and Dorothy Drummond in East St. Louis, IL. He was a 1947 graduate of St. Louis University High School and served in the US Army. Bernie owned and operated Drummond Automotive in Grandview, MO. He loved hunting and fishing, target shooting, remote control airplane, cars and boats, BBQ competition and pig snoots. He was a 4-H shooting sports volunteer, volunteer for Jackson County Parks and Rec, and long time Christ the King Church member. Bernie was an endowment member of the National Rifle Association. He has been a Chiefs season ticket holder for the past 50 years. He was one of the original members of the Wolf Pack. Bernie was an excellent mechanic who loved building cars and making them go fast. He loved spending time at his brother Tom’s mountain cabin, hunting, fishing, cooking and telling stories on the Liar's Bench. He had a wide circle of friends from his hunting buddies, shooting pals, model plane flying buddies, auto repair customers, stock car racing buddies, neighbours who adopted him as their own grandpa, and many relatives, including his active, independent-living 103 year old mother.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose Drummond; his mother, Dorothy Drummond; sons, Mark and wife JoAnn, Jamie and wife Vickie, Ken and wife Kris; grandchildren, Katie, Danny, Alexis, Andie and Ally; siblings, Bob (Bonnie), Mary Ann Lamm, John (Mary), Gin Kepp (Warren) and Tom (Pat); and many nieces and nephews. Bernie was preceded in death by his father; brother, Bill Drummond and infant granddaughter, Sarah Jean.
