Edmund F. Welch, 85, of Kansas City, MO passed away April 26, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a brief illness. The visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30pm. Wednesday, May 1st, at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO with the rosary being prayed at 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Thursday at Visitation Parish, 5141 Main St., Kansas City, MO. Internment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
Ed was born on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, October 4, 1927, to Flaven F. and Mildred J. Welch in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from De LaSalle High School, received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas and served in the U.S. Navy.
Ed was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed the fine arts, going to the Gaslight Grill to dance, feeding his beloved birds and was a member of the Astronomical Society.
Ed met Diane Householder at Visitation Church where they were later married on June 23, 1956. Survived by his wife Diane. He was proud of his six redhead children, Gregory E. Welch & his wife Kathy, Patrice D. Welch, Michael F. Welch, Margaret A. Crow, Joseph C. Welch, Kevin L. Welch. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Francis and Katie Crow; sisters, Mary M. Harte and husband Bill, Anne F. Bauman and husband Mark, Geraldine E. Scanlon and Barbara J. Dwelle and husband Rick. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Flavia M. Tarwater; a brother, Casimir M. Welch.
